چکیده

that the prevalence of EBOV in these tested bat species is greater than that previously detected in E. helvum bats (1/262 serum samples) (1). The higher estimated prevalence in these species occurred despite the fact that E. helvum bats live in large colonies comprising several million animals, which make the species an ideal host for acute RNA virus infections. The relatively low seroprevalence of EBOV among E. helvum bats compared with that among sympatric species is contrary to our fi ndings for a lyssavirus and an uncharacterized henipavirus (3,4). Our results, therefore, lead us to question what factors (e.g., host, ecologic) limit EBOV circulation in straw-colored fruit bats. Virus isolation is required to characterize EBOVs circulating among fruit bats in Ghana, and additional testing, including longitudinal sampling of bats, is required to further investigate the epidemiology of EBOV in West Africa. Possible public health threats should also be investigated and addressed. These initial fi ndings, however, suggest that the risk for human infection with EBOV might be greater from bat-human contact in rural and forest settings than from urban-roosting E. helvum bats.

Complete genomic sequence of a reovirus isolate from Pekin ducklings in China.

The complete genomic sequence of a Pekin duck origin reovirus (DRV) from China was determined. The genome comprises 23,419 bp, with segments ranging from 1,191 bp (S4) to 3,959 bp (L1). Pairwise comparisons and phylogenetic analysis indicate that the Pekin duck origin reovirus is more closely related to the new type of Muscovy duck origin reovirus (N-MDRV) identified recently than to the chicke...

Complete Genome Sequence of an Avian Reovirus Isolated from Wild Mallard Ducks in China

We report here the complete sequence of novel duck reovirus (N-DRV) strain SD12 isolated from diseased wild mallard ducklings in the Shandong Province of China in 2012. The complete genome consists of 23,420 nucleotide base pairs (bp), including 10 segments ranging from 1,191 bp (S4) to 3,959 bp (L1).

Occurrence of reovirus infection in Muscovy ducks (Cairina moschata) in south western Poland.

During the summer 2012 an incidence of high mortality, above 44 percent, in two flocks of Muscovy ducklings in Poland was noted. The clinical signs included considerable weight loss and inability to walk. During the post-mortem evaluations dehydration and enteritis, gouty kidneys as well as hemorrhagic liver and spleen lesions were found. The laboratory diagnosis included agar gel precipitation...

Induction of a robust immunity response against novel duck reovirus in ducklings using a subunit vaccine of sigma C protein

Novel duck reovirus (NDRV) disease emerged in China in 2011 and continues to cause high morbidity and about 5.0 to 50% mortality in ducklings. Currently there are no approved vaccines for the virus. This study aimed to assess the efficacy of a new vaccine created from the baculovirus and sigma C gene against NDRV. In this study, a recombinant baculovirus containing the sigma C gene was construc...

Diagnosis and characterization of duck beak atrophy and dwarfism syndrome in Chongqing of China

Duck beak atrophy and dwarfism syndrome (BADS) is a newly emerged disease in China since 2015. In October 2017, an unidentified disease occurred in Cherry Valley ducks, Chongqing municipality, the southwest of China. The affected birds showed short beak and growth retardation clinical signs. The disease caused approximately 20.00% morbidity and serious weight loss due to retarded growth. In ord...
